Construction, Construction, Construction, The Northeast Golf Company overseeing major renovations at Mohegan Sun CC in CT and Orchard Hills GC in NJ…among others.

Robert McNeil, ASGCA Associate has completed 4 renovation projects this spring and is well into the dirt at Mohegan Sun and Orchard Hills.

During a spring that seemed to drag on forever with inclement weather causing havoc with construction schedules, The Northeast Golf Company has completed renovations in central NJ at Fairmount CC in Chatham and Mendham Golf and Tennis Club in Mendham. The projects included bunker reconstruction and styling, green construction, tee construction, fairway expansions and creek feature construction. Each Club boasts a strong “growing” membership and foresees work continuing in the coming months.

“Our work in Fairmount and Mendham has been blessed with the involvement and commitment of 2 superb Superintendents; Vince Bracken at Fairmount and Chris Boyle at Mendham”, boasts McNeil.

12 years after sketching out the elements of a long range Master Plan for Sterling Farms Golf Course in Stamford, Connecticut, The Northeast Golf Company has completed work on the final holes. The work began in earnest in 2007 with the installation of a new irrigation system, this was followed by an overhaul of the practice center including new putting and short game areas and a new state of the art 2-tier driving deck.

The work touched every corner of the golf course including all new tees, several new greens, all new bunkering, cart paths and extensive tree management. Robert McNeil worked closely with Stamford Golf Authority led by Executive Director, Paul Grillo and Turco Construction.

The work has received outstanding reviews from the people the matter most, the players and Sterling Farms has been recognized as the best public facility in Fairfield County.

At Mohegan Sun Country Club in Baltic, CT, 11 months after the first dozer hit the dirt, the Robert McNeil design is beginning to take shape. “When I first met with the Club and the project manager Ron Winarick of Forewinds Hospitality, we were trying to solve a water resource problem. The solution included the construction of a new irrigation pond and 2 holding ponds which were designed to become integral parts of the playing experience” said McNeil. Midway through the project Mr. Winarick was stricken with cancer and battled until his recent passing. “Ron and I had a vision to bring a bold new look to the golf course, enhance the strategy and eliminate the weaker holes on the course”. Ron’s spirit and vision now drive the project as it nears completion.

NMP Golf Construction has worked diligently through a challenging spring to bring this vision to life. The project began in August of 2010 and is scheduled for completion in the coming months. Superintendent, Anthony Grosso has taken on the task of growing in the many new areas of the golf course and has also taken charge of reseeding all of the existing greens (not rebuilt) with T1/Alpha Bentgrass.

In Paramus, NJ, the renovation of Orchard Hills Golf Course is under the watchful eye of Robert McNeil as the redesign of this very popular 9 hole track is underway. After slopping through the rains of spring, improvements at Orchard Hills are now moving into high gear. The Turco Golf Construction team has completed the new 4th and 5th holes and is now moving through the golf course reconstructing all of the tees and bunkers. A major tree removal program preceded the work lead by Downes Tree Service.

The course, once a prominent 18 hole private club originally built in 1925 now resides on roughly 70 acres adjacent to the Bergen County Community College who purchased the land, including the golf course, in 1969. The College then proceeded to develop the campus on a portion of the course leaving what is today the 9 hole Orchard Hills layout. Safety issues along the boundaries of the property prompted the revisions and ultimately the overall redesign of the course.

The project began in April and is scheduled for completion in Fall 2011.
