Golf, Skeet, Clays, Fishing…..and Buffalo roaming the meadows! The Preserve at Boulder Hills is taking shape in…of all places…Rhode Island

When you think of Rhode Island, buffalo meandering in meadows is certainly not the first thought that comes to mind. Golf in Rhode Island is a different story. There is a great heritage and tradition in the Ocean State with Newport Country Club, host of America’s first national championship, as well as some of the finest classic layouts in the region. The Preserve at Boulder Hills, tucked away in Richmond, Rhode Island, marries the two on over 200 acres of sporting preserve that will engage members and visitors with an 18 hole challenge course traversing the high rock outcrops and flowing meadows with character and charm indigenous to the region. The property rests just 15 minutes from the Atlantic, but has the markings of another world.

Imagine eyeing a 175 yard 6 iron to a pin tucked on a high plateau protected by bulging rock and framed by meadow grasses when a group of bison pass along the high ridge in the distance. Golf is just a piece of what will become a recreational enthusiasts dream with fishing, off road biking, hiking, rock climbing, zip lining, skeet, clay and seasonal bird and small game hunting. Elegant banquet dining set within The Preserve’s natural character and four legged inhabitants will also add to the uniqueness of the experience.

Construction is nearing completion under the design eye of Robert McNeil, ASGCA and owner Paul Mihailides. The vision at The Preserve takes the remnants of an existing 18 hole course that has been fallow for 7 years (the old Foxwoods Country Club) and transforms a rugged piece of terrain into 18 breathtaking holes that melt into the ground embracing everything the site has to offer. The layout blends handpicked elements of the old course and the natural character of the site resulting in a routing that is meant to ignite a visual and strategic charge.
